Grim....Darn Sarf?
Gillingham is one of those places which, when mentioned, makes hairs on the back of one's neck stand up. It's been known as many things- 'London's carvan park' for one. I dont actually mind the place, but I certainly wouldn't like living there.
The first gripe is that the car park for coaches (on this occasion I went on the Shipley Bantams supporters group coach) is nearly a 15 minute walk away. It's hard for people that cant manage the walk as they are old or disabled. We had to take one elderley fan and get the coach to come and meet us with him (cough, me and Chapalar).
Second of all, the fans aren't the most welcoming. After being counted on the way in, we were met by 10/15 chavy idiots on the way out. We were threatened, and bear in mind we were helping a 91 year old to get to the coach. Cheers lads!
But lastly, it is the coldest, most windy ground I have ever experienced. The temporary stand is just hell, and the wind and cold off the nearby sea is horrid. One mad fan even managed to tear up a piece of the flooring on the stand. It's bad enough having to look down, nevermind when there's a big hole next to you!
